In Baja California, there have been a series of murders of tourists and fights between criminal gangs.

As described below, the security situation has significantly worsened. When traveling or staying in the country on business, please avoid areas with few pedestrians, stay in the center of the city, and refrain as much as possible from activities after sunset. If you are involved in a robbery or other crime, do not resist and act with your personal safety as your first priority.

In April of this year, three tourists, an Australian national and an American national, were attacked by robbers in the suburbs of Ensenada City, and when they resisted, they were killed.

In July of this year, the head of the Chamber of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the State of Baja California was shot several times and killed.

Ongoing turf wars between the Jalisco New Generation cartel, the Sinaloa cartel, and the Tijuana cartel over criminal activity in the city of Tijuana.

A 58 percent increase in the rate of homicides in the city of Ensenada during the same period in 2024 compared to the first half of 2023.

Since Baja California borders the United States, the drug and arms smuggling trade and illegal entry into Mexico is a problem that is prevalent in Mexico.
