On April 22 (Sunday) at around 4:00 AM, a burglary occurred at the home of a Japanese national in Libreville.

During the early morning of April 22, while the family was asleep in their two-story apartment, someone broke in and stole items such as a wallet and smartphone left inside. According to eyewitnesses, the perpetrator appeared to be a teenage boy, approximately in his mid-teens.

The area in Libreville has seen a rise in thefts, and in this case, the intruder gained entry by removing the lock from a wooden window on the second floor. Japanese residents in the area are advised to review and strengthen their home security measures. Here are some preventive measures to consider:

  • Consider installing or enhancing strong security features (e.g., iron bars, multiple locks).
  • Ensure that all locks are securely fastened (sometimes locking hooks may not engage properly).
  • Avoid leaving valuables in visible places.
  • Lock bedroom doors while sleeping.
  • Remove or secure items that could be used as footholds for climbing into the house. If removal is not possible, implement measures to prevent entry from these points.
  • If you notice a break-in, avoid confrontation or pursuit, as perpetrators are often armed.
