Greece: Advisory on Severe Weather “Alexandros”
According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms, are expected from the evening of Friday, November 15, to the night of Saturday, November 16. Areas at particular risk include Thessaly, the Sporades Islands, Central and Northern Evia Island, and Northeastern Central Greece. A red alert (Level 3 of the three-tier system: yellow, orange, red) has been issued, with the storm named “Alexandros.” Details are as follows:
1. Main Areas Expected to Experience Severe Weather
November 15 (Friday):
•Ionian Islands: Severe weather expected by late morning but expected to improve late at night.
•Epirus, Western Central Greece, Northern and Western Peloponnese: Severe weather from midday, improving by late night.
•Western Macedonia, Thessaly, Sporades Islands, Evia Island, Eastern Central Greece: Severe weather starting around 6 PM.
November 16 (Saturday):
•Thessaly, Sporades Islands, Eastern Central Greece: Severe weather until around 6 PM.
•Evia Island: Until approximately 9 PM. Particularly heavy rainfall is expected in areas like Larissa and Magnesia in Eastern Central Greece, and the Sporades and Central/Northern Evia regions. Flash floods are predicted in northeastern areas like Phthiotis and Boeotia.
•Eastern Aegean Islands, Dodecanese Islands: Severe weather from around 2 AM to 8 PM.
•Cyclades Islands: Until around 5 AM.
•Western Crete: From around 6 PM until midnight.

The ministry advises the following safety measures for those in affected areas and may send emergency alerts via the “112” service based on regional needs:
•Stay updated on weather conditions through television, radio, or other sources, and follow authorities’ instructions.
•Avoid all non-essential travel during severe weather.
•Refrain from activities in coastal and marine areas.
•Do not cross flooded streams or roads, whether by foot or vehicle.
•During strong winds, avoid large trees, signboards, or any objects that might fall.
•In emergencies, contact the relevant services: 112 (European emergency number), 100 (Police), 199 (Fire Brigade), or 166 (Ambulance).
