Indonesia: Mount Lewotobi on Flores Island erupts, raising the alert level to 4

Location: Mt. Lewotobi, island of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia

Event: Mount Lewotobi, in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, erupted on 04 NOV 2024, spewing volcanic ash. Several fatalities have been reported from a near-by village. Indonesian authorities have increased the Alert Level for Mt. Lewotobi to Tier 4, the highest alert tier. There is a 7km exclusion zone around the volcano and travel within that radius is prohibited. American citizens are likewise advised to avoid that area.

Airports in the region may be closed or experience significant delays and cancellations of domestic or international air travel. American citizens traveling through airports in Maumere, Ende, East Flores, Sikka, and Komodo International Airport in Labuan Bajo are advised to check the operational status of airports and flights accordingly.
