Details
- Trends in General and Violent Crime
- Crime Statistics: According to the Philippine National Police’s 7th Regional Command, Cebu Province recorded various crime incidents from July to September 2024. Although overall crime rates show a slight decline compared to the previous quarter (April-June 2024), they remain notably higher than in Japan. Please exercise caution, especially during the Christmas season when crime rates typically increase in the Philippines.
- Recent Incidents: In Metro Manila, a series of armed robberies targeting Japanese nationals occurred in October. In Metro Cebu (Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City), reports include cases of theft, pickpocketing, bag snatching, and scams involving fake drivers. For instance, a Japanese tourist was approached by a driver who falsely claimed their Grab registration was incorrect, leading to a situation where the driver later stole the tourist’s smartphone.
- Tour Accidents: There have been cases of foreigners, including Japanese nationals, involved in accidents while on tours organized by Philippine travel agencies. When booking local tours, especially during peak holiday seasons, please use only Department of Tourism-accredited agencies, as compensation may not be available in case of accidents with unlicensed operators.
- Passport Security: Lost or stolen passports are a frequent issue. Reissuance requires a recent (within six months) Family Register Certificate, a police report, and immigration processing in the Philippines. Keep passports secure and verify their location before traveling.

Those involved with Japanese companies are urged to maintain vigilance over the safety of both corporate premises and personnel.
