The U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens to exercise caution and stay observant to possible large crowds of people gathering or protesting in Georgia this month associated with the October 26 Parliamentary elections.
Unplanned, spontaneous protests that included violence have occurred in the past in Georgia. Large crowds are unpredictable and confrontations and violence between event attendees, counter-demonstrators, and police can occur without warning. Please exercise caution around large groups. In the past U.S. citizens have been injured and detained by the police at protests.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Keep a low profile.
