On October 2, the Toronto Police held a press conference to announce an increase in police presence in areas with large Jewish populations and at mosques, as the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel approaches on October 7. During the same press conference, it was emphasized that hate crimes in the city are on the rise, particularly targeting the Jewish community in Toronto, with a 40% increase compared to the same period last year.

To respond to this situation, the police have set up multiple mobile command posts throughout the city and increased the number of officers on patrol. However, there have been incidents of protesters becoming violent toward police during demonstrations and cases of Hezbollah (which is designated as a terrorist organization by the Canadian government) flags being raised. As a result, there is concern about the potential escalation of protests.

Everyone is advised to avoid crowds, such as demonstrations, stay informed through the media, and take safety precautions, especially around October 7 and the surrounding days, by avoiding areas that could be considered dangerous.
