To prevent water-related accidents, please be mindful of wearing life jackets while boating and managing your health.
As the weather warms up, there will likely be more opportunities to enjoy leisure activities on the sea or lakes. Last year in Finland, 87 people died in water-related accidents, and there have been cases where Japanese travelers have also lost their lives.
When boating, always wear a life jacket. Wearing a life jacket significantly increases your chances of survival if you fall overboard. For swimming, be cautious of sudden changes in water depth.
Due to the increasing popularity of saunas in Japan, more travelers are visiting Finland with the intention of experiencing saunas. Some saunas provide access to lakes or the sea, and it’s sometimes reported in Japan that people enter the water immediately after using a sauna. However, be aware that this can pose serious risks. Even if you jump into the water directly after leaving the sauna, checking the water temperature beforehand is an effective way to prevent accidents.
Engaging in these activities after consuming alcohol greatly increases the risk of accidents, so exercise caution. If you feel any discomfort, take a break. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer.
