Details: Recently, there have been numerous reports of phishing scams where scammers impersonate Inland Revenue Department (IRD) staff, claiming issues such as “refunds due” or “tax arrears.” These scammers often direct victims to government verification services (RealMe) or other apps to collect financial information and steal money.
If you receive any suspicious emails, texts, or phone calls, they may be attempts at impersonation. Contact IRD at phishing@ird.govt.nz if you receive any suspicious communications. If you become a victim of such scams, contact New Zealand Police immediately.
