Recently, the consulate has received an increase in reports regarding theft of valuables from carry-on luggage aboard aircraft.
Examples of Reports:
- On a flight from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City, a passenger’s wallet was stolen from their carry-on luggage in the overhead compartment, and credit cards within the wallet were used fraudulently.
- On a flight from Japan to Ho Chi Minh City, a passenger’s wallet was stolen from a carry-on bag in the overhead compartment, resulting in the theft of several tens of thousands of yen.
Preventive Measures:
- Whether on domestic or international flights, avoid placing cash and other valuables in carry-on luggage stored in the overhead compartments. Keep such items as close to your person as possible.
- When using the aircraft’s restroom, keep cash, credit cards, and passports on your person to minimize the risk of theft.
