Recent Reports:

The consulate has recently received increased reports regarding:

  • Suspicious Encounters with Foreigners
  • Loss of Items from Checked Luggage on Aircraft

Examples:

  • Incident 1: On Le Thanh Ton Street in District 1 and at the entrance of a large shopping center in District 2, individuals of Middle Eastern or Indian descent approached in English, expressing interest in Japan and persistently requesting to see Japanese yen.
  • Incident 2: After boarding a domestic flight from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Phu Quoc Island and checking in a suitcase, the passenger discovered upon arrival at their hotel that cash and jewelry were missing from the suitcase.

Precautionary Measures:

  • For Suspicious Encounters (Incident 1):
    • Always stay alert and maintain a safe distance from unfamiliar individuals who approach you.
    • Avoid revealing or carrying large amounts of cash. If asked for money, do not comply and leave the area immediately.
  • For Theft from Luggage (Incident 2):
    • Avoid placing valuable items, including cash and jewelry, in checked luggage. Instead, carry them in your hand luggage to keep them secure.
    • Report any loss or theft to local authorities and your airline immediately.

  • Remain vigilant and practice good security habits to protect yourself and your belongings while traveling.
