1. Incident Overview
On February 23 (Friday) around 7:00 PM, a Japanese national was walking alone on the main road near BBS Shopping Mall in Gaborone when three men dressed in work clothes approached from the opposite direction. One of the men grabbed the Japanese national’s left arm and attempted to steal a smartphone from the left pocket of their trousers. The victim shouted for help, which alerted nearby passengers in a passing vehicle. They responded by shouting and throwing objects at the assailant. Additionally, the smartphone’s strap was attached to the victim’s belt, making it difficult for the assailant to steal. As a result, the assailant gave up and fled the scene.
