  1. Incident Overview

On February 19th (Monday) around midnight, a Japanese national was resting in the bedroom of their home in the suburbs of Gaborone when they heard the sound of glass breaking immediately after the guard dog outside began barking. Due to the severe weather, including strong rain and wind, it was unclear whether the sound was from their home or not. The resident waited for a while, but no signs of anyone entering the home were noticed. The following morning around 6:00 AM, the resident confirmed that the kitchen window glass was broken. The landlord, who is a neighbor, found a brick near the broken window that should not have been there, leading to the inference that someone attempted to break into the home using the brick.

  1. Future Actions
  • Reassess and ensure that physical security measures such as wall height, electric fences, and barbed wire are adequate. Implement necessary improvements if they are insufficient.
  • For homes equipped with security devices, activate alarms when going to bed.
  • Before sleeping, verify that all doors, windows, and burglar bars are securely locked.
  • If any unusual activity is noticed, assess the situation calmly and prioritize personal safety.
