  • Carnival Dates and Events:
From February 9 (Friday) to February 11 (Sunday), parades will be held at the Anhembi Sambadrome in São Paulo, and various “blocos” (street parties) will take place throughout the city. According to São Paulo City, these blocos are scheduled to run from February 3 (Saturday) to February 18 (Sunday).
  • Increased Risk of Theft and Robbery:
During Carnival and the surrounding period, there is a higher risk of theft and robbery targeting tourists. Be aware of the risk of “arrastão” (mass theft), where large groups of robbers suddenly appear and indiscriminately attack and rob people. Exercise extreme caution to avoid becoming a victim of crime or accidents.
  • Precautions During Blocos and Viewing Areas:
When participating in or observing blocos, be vigilant to avoid theft, pickpocketing, and other crimes. Keep a close watch on your belongings, such as smartphones and wallets.
  • Be Aware of Your Surroundings:
Robbers may approach from unexpected directions. They could be observing you while you are filming the Carnival with your smartphone. Continuously check your surroundings and remain alert. Occasionally scanning your environment can deter potential criminals.
  • Minimize Belongings:
Carry only essential items when going out and avoid taking valuables if possible. If you must carry valuables, distribute them in different locations on your person.
