  • Incident Overview:
    • A female expatriate (referred to as A-san) residing in Brazil received an email from a sender claiming to be the legitimate telecommunications company “NET” (N Company). The email stated that a service, which A-san had not requested, had been completed and that an invoice would be sent later. Suspicious of the message, A-san contacted NET, which confirmed that the invoice was a scam and advised her not to pay it.
  • Details:
    • The scammer’s email address appeared to be from NET and looked legitimate. Additionally, the scammer used A-san’s CPF number and contract number, which matched those of the real NET, making the scam appear credible at first.
  • Precautions:
    • If you receive any unexpected notifications or invoices, verify the company’s details through publicly available information on the internet. Avoid using contact details, phone numbers, email addresses, or links provided in the suspicious message to make inquiries. Always contact the company directly using verified contact information to confirm the legitimacy of any claims.
