  • Details: A Japanese tourist was approached by a woman near Retiro Station asking for directions. During the interaction, the tourist was splashed with a substance resembling sunscreen. While the victim was wiping off the substance, another thief on a bicycle stole a waist pouch containing valuable items, including the passport.

  • (1) Do not keep all valuables such as passports, cash, identification, and mobile phones in a single bag. Distribute them to minimize loss in case of theft.
  • (2) The area around Retiro Station is known for frequent “ketchup robberies.” In these crimes, a group of thieves may use liquid substances like ketchup to distract the victim while others steal their belongings.
