  • September 17 (Saturday), 8:00 PM: A robbery occurred involving travelers in Carchi Province. While traveling near the Colombia border on a highway in the Rumichaca area, the vehicle was rear-ended at a traffic signal. The victims were then surrounded by armed robbers who stole their valuables.
  • September 11 (Sunday), Daytime: A car burglary involving Japanese residents took place in Quito. The theft occurred in a free parking lot in the city center without security cameras or attendants. The car’s window showed signs of tampering, and valuables inside were stolen.
  • May 8 (Sunday), Daytime: A theft involving Japanese residents occurred in Quito’s northern part near Carolina Park. While waiting at a traffic signal and using a smartphone, the victim’s phone was snatched by a duo on a motorcycle.

Safety Recommendations:

  • Travel in Groups: Whenever possible, travel with others rather than alone.
  • Avoid Flashy Items: Refrain from wearing or displaying expensive items that might attract attention.
  • Consistent Behavior Patterns: Avoid establishing predictable routines for travel and activities.
  • Bank Withdrawals: Avoid withdrawing large sums of cash from banks. If necessary, request police accompaniment.
