Sweden: Confirmation of Mpox Infections
1. According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, on August 15, a case of Mpox (Clade 1) was confirmed in Sweden. This is reported to be the first case outside of Africa.
2. The infected individual is believed to have contracted the virus while in Africa and is currently receiving treatment in Sweden. The agency assesses the impact of this case on the overall infection risk in Sweden as very low, but individual cases brought from abroad, similar to this one, may occur in the future.
3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has also issued broad information on Mpox. Travelers and residents in Sweden are advised to continue monitoring the latest information. For prevention, it is recommended to avoid contact with respiratory droplets, bodily fluids of symptomatic individuals, and animals that may carry the Mpox virus, and to practice hand hygiene using soap or alcohol-based disinfectants.
