According to local media, the National Taxi Association (ANTRAL) has issued warnings about the widespread operation of unlicensed taxis, also known as “white taxis,” targeting foreign tourists at Lisbon Airport and Porto Airport.

These unlicensed taxis often approach arriving tourists with promises of faster service compared to regular taxis, or by claiming that licensed taxi drivers are on strike. They then charge exorbitant fares, with reports of cases where tourists were charged up to 400 euros for a trip from Lisbon to Sintra. In 2023 alone, around 1,000 similar illegal activities were reported in Lisbon.

To avoid such situations, use only official taxis or authorized ride-sharing services. Always verify the taxi’s credentials and agree on the fare before starting your journey. If you encounter any issues, report them to the local authorities or airport customer service.
