On the evening of February 26, a Japanese national walking on the street in the Woluwe-Saint-Lambert area of Brussels was attacked from behind by two men. The victim managed to fend off the attackers and seek help from a passing car, avoiding injury or theft. The attackers may have been armed with a knife. It is not yet confirmed whether the incident was targeted specifically at the Japanese national.

Even in relatively safe areas, crimes can occur. To minimize risk, particularly in the evening and at night:

  • Be highly aware of your surroundings.
  • Travel in groups when possible.
  • Use private vehicles or taxis for transportation whenever feasible.
