Heated tobacco products, which are widely used in Japan, cannot be brought into Taiwan. Please ensure that you do not carry any heated tobacco products (including in checked baggage) when entering Taiwan.
If you accidentally bring heated tobacco products with you, declare them at the customs declaration counter (Red Line Counter) upon arrival at the airport in Taiwan and follow the instructions of the customs officers.
In June 2024, there was a report about a large-scale smuggling group involving heated tobacco products from Japan to Taiwan. Japanese travelers entering Taiwan were found to be carrying large quantities of heated tobacco, and these travelers were also apprehended.
Regarding the importation of heated tobacco products by travelers into Taiwan:
– Travelers entering Taiwan are not allowed to bring heated tobacco products.
– If you have any heated tobacco products at the time of entry, you must honestly declare them to customs.
– If you are found carrying heated tobacco products during customs inspection without declaring them, you will be fined according to Taiwanese laws. The heated tobacco products will also be confiscated, destroyed, or returned.
As stated above, heated tobacco products widely used in Japan cannot be brought into Taiwan. Failure to declare these products and having them discovered during customs inspection will result in penalties, even if you were unaware of the illegality. Additionally, do not agree to any solicitation or requests to carry heated tobacco products to Taiwan.
Please also be aware that the use, manufacture, import, and sale of electronic cigarettes are completely banned in Taiwan.
