Be aware that scam messages (SMS) demanding payment for unpaid tolls are currently widespread.
[Full Text]
-
As reported in the media, there has been a recent surge in scam text messages pretending to demand payment for unpaid toll road fees. Authorities and police are warning the public to stay vigilant.
-
These messages often impersonate toll operators such as Georgia’s “Peach Pass,” claiming unpaid tolls and prompting users to click on links that lead to websites requesting personal banking or credit card information. Some messages may even include specific payment amounts to make them seem more convincing.
-
The scam texts often include alarming phrases like “legal action,” “additional late fees,” “revocation of license,” and “final reminder” to pressure recipients into acting quickly. However, neither Peach Pass nor the State Road Tollway Authority (SRTA) ever requests personal information or payments via email or SMS.
-
If you receive a suspicious email or text message, do not click on any links or enter personal information. Delete the message immediately. If you have already submitted your credit card or other personal details, contact your financial institution without delay.
