During the Christmas and New Year season, there is typically an increase in crimes such as burglaries, robberies, and assaults by intoxicated individuals. Recently, there have been multiple reports of burglaries and robberies in areas such as Elk and Tashiriki. To ensure your safety, please keep the following tips in mind:

  1. Home Security Measures (1) Always check that doors and windows are locked when leaving home or going to bed. (2) When leaving home, store valuables (wallets, mobile phones, laptops, etc.) in a place that is not easily visible, such as in a closet or drawer, and use a locked storage space when possible. Avoid keeping large amounts of cash at home. (3) When going to bed, move valuables to a safe place, such as the bedroom, or if your bedroom is on the second floor, leave lights on downstairs or install motion-sensor lights as additional precautions.
  2. Out and About (1) Avoid walking alone at night, especially in deserted areas or dark streets. (2) Be cautious around nightclubs or casinos, as there is a higher likelihood of assault incidents involving intoxicated individuals. It’s advisable to take a detour or pass at a safe distance. (3) Do not carry large amounts of cash and only take the minimum necessary amount with you. (4) Keep valuables (wallets, mobile phones, passports, etc.) discreetly on your person and always remain aware of your surroundings.
