On Wednesday, November 27, local elections are scheduled to take place across Tanzania, excluding Zanzibar. Areas around polling stations, as well as places under heightened police security, may see unrest. Please avoid approaching polling stations, demonstrators, or crowds.

To all residents, expatriates, and short-term visitors in Tanzania:

On Wednesday, November 27, local elections will be held throughout Tanzania, excluding Zanzibar. Areas around polling stations, demonstrations, and police-secured locations may experience disturbances.

In past local elections, large-scale unrest has occurred between police forces enforcing election-related regulations and crowds opposing them. Additionally, clashes between police and demonstrators have led to injuries.

We strongly advise avoiding polling stations, demonstrations, marches, and other places where crowds gather before, during, and after the election. If your commute or plans involve these areas, consider alternative routes in advance.

If you find yourself surrounded by demonstrators or crowds, seek shelter in a store, move toward a police officer, or, if in a vehicle, stop and wait until the crowd passes before continuing. Avoid actions that could unnecessarily provoke the crowd. Be cautious, as foreign nationals may be wrongly accused or, in some cases, vehicles may be damaged by passing crowds. Always maintain a safe distance from demonstrations or crowds.
