Russia: Collection of Fingerprints and Other Biometric Data for Entry and Exit (Starting December 1)

1. Based on a government decree (Постановление Правительства Российской Федерации от 07.11.2024 No.1510), the collection of fingerprints and facial images (biometric identification data) will begin at four airports in Moscow (Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky) starting December 1, 2024. This measure will apply to foreigners, including Japanese nationals, during the entry and exit procedures.
2. Additionally, starting June 30, 2025, this measure will be extended to all border checkpoints across Russia. The nationwide implementation will continue until June 30, 2026.
3. Note that this measure will not apply to children under the age of six.
4. Be aware that the entry and exit procedures in Russia may take longer than usual due to this new process.
