•The U.S. Embassy has lifted its travel restrictions for Arugam Bay, located in southeastern Sri Lanka.

Details

1.On November 13, the U.S. Embassy lifted the travel restrictions previously issued on October 23 for Arugam Bay in southeastern Sri Lanka. Additionally, the Embassy urges all U.S. citizens to review travel advisories for Sri Lanka, remain vigilant, stay aware of their surroundings, and report any suspicious activities or emergencies to local authorities.

2.Japanese residents and travelers are also advised to take the following measures to stay safe and informed:

•(1) Report any suspicious activities or emergencies to local authorities by dialing 119.

•(2) Avoid locations that could be potential targets for terrorism, such as foreign-affiliated facilities, religious sites, hotels, public transport, restaurants, shopping malls, busy commercial areas, tourist attractions, and government-related buildings. Always stay alert, be aware of your surroundings, and leave any area if you sense unusual activity.

•(3) Always carry some form of communication, such as a mobile phone.

•(4) Regularly check local news and announcements from the Sri Lankan government for updates.
