Event: Violence between police and protesters caused physical damage to border infrastructure and closed the Ressano Garcia/Lebombo border crossing between Mozambique and South Africa. Large demonstrations protesting national election results are expected throughout the city of Maputo on Thursday, November 7 and may continue up to the weekend. Major roads and routes may be blocked by protests and debris. Travel in and around Maputo could quickly become difficult and possibly dangerous with little to no notice.
Demonstrations are scheduled to begin Thursday at the following locations in Maputo:
- Mercado Municipal – Junction of Avenida 25 Septembro and Avenida Karl Marx
- Statue of Eduardo Mondlane – Junction of Avenida Eduardo Mondlane and Avenida Tanzania
- Ponte do Jardim – Junction of Avenida de Mocambique and Avenida Joaquin Chissano
- Praca da OMM – Junction of Avenida Kenneth Kaunda and Avenida Vladimir Lenin
- Praca dos Combatentes – Junction of Avenida Julius Nyerere and Avenida das Forcas Populares
- Junction of Avenida Marginal and Rua Engenheiro Santos Resenoe
