Syria: Continued Travel Ban Advisory Due to Escalating Regional Tensions and Heightened Safety Risks

We’ve reviewed our advice for Syria and continue to advise do not travel. The ongoing conflict in Lebanon and the Occupied Palestinian Territories could lead to increased tensions in other locations in the Middle East. There is an increased threat of attacks against Israeli interests across the region. Demonstrations and protest activity may also occur, and localised security situations could deteriorate with little notice. Avoid all demonstrations and protests.

The ongoing conflict may also result in airspace closures, flight cancellations, flight diversions and other travel disruptions across the region.

We continue to advise do not travel to Syria due to the dangerous security situation and the threat of armed conflict, air strikes, terrorism and kidnapping. The security situation remains volatile. If you’re in Syria, you should leave as soon as possible. Entry and exit requirements for Syria may change without notice. If you’re planning to cross a land border from Syria, contact the relevant authorities in your destination country for entry requirements.

Due to the ongoing unpredictable security situation, Lebanese General Security have advised they will no longer allow dual Australian/Syrian nationals entry into Lebanon to renew expired Australian passports. Only holders of valid Australian passports can enter Lebanon.

We advise:

Do not travel to Syria due to the extremely dangerous security situation and the threat of armed conflict, air strikes, terrorism and kidnapping.
