1.During the day on the 22nd, near the National Parliament in Juba, a vehicle carrying a driver and an international NGO worker was stopped by two armed men on a motorcycle. When the vehicle complied, one of the men opened an unlocked door and entered the vehicle.

2.The man who entered the vehicle identified himself as a security officer, pointed a gun at the driver and the NGO worker, and ordered them to continue driving. He threatened them, saying, “Why were you making a phone call near the National Parliament? Phone calls in this area are prohibited.” He then searched the worker’s bag, stole all the cash (US dollars), and fled on the motorcycle that had been following the vehicle. Neither the worker nor the driver was injured.

3.For Japanese nationals residing in Juba, please always be aware that such incidents are occurring and take precautions, including:

•Always lock the doors and close all windows while driving.

•Do not open windows carelessly, even if approached by beggars or street performers while waiting at traffic lights.

•Do not respond to orders to stop or calls from strangers that seem suspicious.

•When getting in and out of vehicles, be vigilant of your surroundings for any suspicious individuals.

Please take all necessary self-defense measures.
