Yesterday, the Cuban government announced the following emergency economic activity restriction measures in response to the power crisis:
1. Suspend all non-essential services that consume energy.
2. Temporarily halt all cultural activities, regardless of whether they are state-run or private.
3. Maintain operations at essential facilities such as hospitals and food production facilities.
4. Suspend activities at discos, entertainment venues, and other places where large numbers of people gather.
5. Suspend activities at all levels of educational institutions from Friday the 18th to Sunday the 20th.
6. Convene power crisis committees at the national, provincial, and municipal levels on Friday the 18th.
7. Ensure that only truly essential personnel are present at workplaces.
At present, these measures are scheduled to last only through this weekend, but they may be extended in the future.
Residents of Cuba and those planning to travel to Cuba are advised to consider the possibility of riots or worsening security conditions due to energy shortages, and to take the following precautions:
• Avoid approaching crowds unnecessarily
• Limit outings to essential purposes
• Avoid going out at night
• Refrain from wearing valuable jewelry
