France: Gathering Organized by Anti-Whaling Groups

•The French branches of the anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd (SS) are planning gatherings in multiple cities in France on October 19 (Saturday) and in Paris on October 23 (Wednesday) to demand the release of former SS representative Paul Watson, who was detained in Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark.

1.On July 21, 2024, the police in Greenland announced that they had detained Paul Watson, the former SS representative, based on an international warrant issued by Interpol at the request of Japan. In response, gatherings have been organized in various cities in France to demand his release, as called for by Sea Shepherd France and its branches. Furthermore, Sea Shepherd France has announced on social media that similar gatherings will be held in multiple cities on October 19 and in Paris on October 23 (details below). It is also anticipated that protests against Japan may escalate.
