On October 9, two consecutive armed robbery and shooting incidents occurred in Belmopan City. Both incidents took place during the daytime. Until now, Belmopan has been considered a relatively safe area compared to Belize City, which has been known for its unstable security, and the city was also regarded as safe during the day.

Below is an overview of the incidents for your reference. Please be mindful of your safety and avoid being involved in any incidents or accidents when visiting the city or going about your daily activities. We urge you to remain vigilant.

Incident 1
Around 11:00 a.m. on October 9, a truck from Bowen & Bowen was on its way to deliver goods to a supermarket along George Price Street when a black sedan stopped in front, blocking its path. Two armed men exited the vehicle, threatened the delivery staff, and stole 7,000 Belize dollars (approximately 520,000 yen) in sales proceeds, along with the delivery worker’s cell phone and personal belongings, before fleeing. The delivery worker was unharmed.

Incident 2
At around noon the same day, an armed robbery took place at a pharmacy in the Maya Mopan district. At the time of the incident, the shop owner and two employees were inside when two armed men entered and threatened them with guns. The men stole 300 Belize dollars (approximately 22,000 yen) in cash from the store’s sales and fled. No one in the store was injured. Later, police arrested three suspects, including a person believed to have orchestrated the crime, who were hiding in the city.

The police have not confirmed whether the two incidents are related or if they were committed by the same perpetrators.
