The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that Hurricane Milton is a Category 5 hurricane that is projected to bring hurricane-force winds and a storm surge across portions of the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and the Gulf of Mexico. The Institute of Meteorology of Cuba advises that due to its proximity to western Cuba, winds, rain, and coastal flooding are expected from Pinar del Rio to Mayabeque provinces, including Havana’s Malecon beginning as early as October 8, 2024. U.S. citizens in the impacted areas should monitor the progress of the hurricane.
