Based on reports from the UAE (United Arab Emirates, hereafter referred to as the UAE), we would like to share the following important points to note during your stay. Please review previous alerts from our office (see section 3 below) to ensure that you do not become involved in any unnecessary troubles while in the UAE.
1. Refrain from Spreading False Information or Posting Defamatory Comments
In the UAE, spreading false information or making defamatory comments, even if based on some facts, is prohibited and may result in punishment such as detention or fines. Local reports have highlighted cases where individuals were fined and their mobile phones confiscated after posting defamatory comments on social media platforms like Google Reviews or Instagram about services they were dissatisfied with. Considering these cases, please avoid posting criticism based on incorrect information or using strong language that could be perceived as defamatory online.
2. Beware of Malicious Web Advertisements
The UAE Cybersecurity Council has issued warnings regarding malicious web advertisements. These pop-up ads may unintentionally lead to the installation of harmful software, which can result in information leaks. It has been noted that such malicious pop-up ads can even appear on reputable websites. As a precaution, it is advised to use software that blocks unnecessary ads and to avoid clicking on suspicious ads. Once information is leaked, it may result in secondary damages, such as unauthorized access leading to further leaks or financial losses. Please implement necessary security measures to prevent information leaks.
