On the morning of August 16, one Su-30 jet fighter and one helicopter of the Belarusian Armed Forces were launched on an emergency basis after a Russian “Shahed” suicide drone entered from the Ukrainian side of the country. The drone entered Belarusian airspace at approximately 8:40 a.m. and flew over 300 kilometers before arriving in the Mogilyov Oblast. The Belarusian military launched an emergency flight shortly after 9:00 a.m. This is the fourth time since the 11th of this month that a “Shahed” drone has entered Belarusian airspace. The possibility of similar incidents occurring in the future cannot be denied, so Japanese citizens are urged to exercise caution.

On March 3, 2022, the Japanese government issued a “Level 4: Evacuate. Please do not travel.” The Japanese government also issued a “Level 3: Do not travel” advisory for all of Belarus, except for areas near the border with Ukraine. (The “Level 3: Do not travel” advisory has been issued for all areas of Belarus outside of the areas surrounding the border with Ukraine.
Since the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is still uncertain, Japanese citizens in Belarus are advised to keep in close contact with their embassies in Belarus. Those who have submitted a “Notification of Residency” and have returned or relocated from Belarus are requested to submit a notification of return or relocation at the following URL.
