From Tuesday, October 1 to Tuesday, October 15, a national census is scheduled to be conducted across Myanmar. The census will cover all individuals residing in Myanmar, including foreigners. Therefore, Japanese residents and visitors in the country may also be included in the survey (Note). You may be asked to participate in a survey conducted either through visits by government officials or by filling out a form at your place of accommodation, such as hotels. If you encounter any issues, please consult the embassy.
Additionally, please be aware that the census will not request information such as bank account numbers, PIN codes, or credit card details, nor will it solicit donations. Be cautious of any fraudulent or suspicious activities pretending to be part of the census.
There is also a possibility of an increase in attacks or bombings targeting government-related facilities in urban areas such as Yangon and Mandalay during the census period. We ask all Japanese residents to take note of the following points and exercise extreme caution for your safety.
1. Avoid military facilities, police stations, immigration offices, administrative offices, and any locations where large crowds gather.
2. If you come across any suspicious objects, do not touch them and leave the area immediately.
3. In the event of a nearby explosion, there may be additional bombs detonating in the same area after a time delay, so never approach the scene and leave immediately.
Note: In the 2014 census, all individuals residing in Myanmar, including foreigners, were also surveyed.
