Taiwan: Precautions for Exercise Wanan 47 (Air Defense Exercise)

Taiwan conducts annual air defense exercises to raise awareness of emergency situations and to improve the level of preparedness in the event of an emergency.

This year’s air defense exercises will be held in each region as follows
July 22 (Monday), from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Central Region (Miaoli County, Taichung City, Nantou County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County)

Tuesday, July 23, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Northern District (Yilan County, Keelung City, Taipei City, Hsinbei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County)

Wednesday, July 24, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Eastern Region and Outer (Outlying) Islands (Hualien County, Taitung County, Kinmen County, Lienchiang County, Penghu County)

Thursday, July 25, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Southern District (Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County)

(Main Points to be Noted)
At the beginning and end of the exercise, air-raid sirens will sound repeatedly and messages will be sent to each person’s cell phone.
After the air defense warning is issued, the military, police, or air defense drill staff will issue evacuation instructions and traffic control for vehicles and people, and each person must evacuate to a nearby air defense evacuation site (e.g., a building with a designated underground level). Please follow the instructions of officials and evacuate immediately. Even if you are driving or riding in a vehicle, you must stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the road and evacuate to the nearest air-raid shelter (except if you are driving on a highway). ○ If you are driving or riding in a vehicle, you must stop on the shoulder of the road and evacuate to a nearby evacuation site.
Public transportation may be temporarily suspended during air defense exercises. If you are using public transportation during an air defense drill, please follow the instructions of nearby officials, etc.
If you do not follow the instructions or guidance of the officials during the exercise and do not cooperate with the exercise, you may be fined between NT$30,000 and NT$150,000 in accordance with the laws and regulations.
