Alert: Fire in Guapulo – U.S. Citizens Advised to Seek Refuge
Location: Quito
Event: The U.S. Embassy has advised personnel living in neighborhoods affected by the fire in Guapulo, Quito to move to safe refuge out of precaution. U.S. citizens in neighborhoods impacted by the fire, including Gonzalez Suarez and Bellavista, are advised to seek refuge if their safety is at risk. The Government of Ecuador’s Secretariat of Risk Management publicly stated that one housing quarters in Gonzalez Suarez and two in Bellavista have been affected by the fire. The Quito Electric Company has cancelled remaining planned electrical outages for September 24. However, substations in La Floresta, Carolina, and Tumbaco remain without power due to increased risk from the fire. U.S. citizens should refer to Bomberos and monitor credible media sources for updates about the fire.
