Cuba: Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, as of 9:00 AM on September 24, Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is located in the northwestern Caribbean Sea, moving north-northwest at a speed of 11 km/h. It is expected to continue strengthening as it moves north-northwest to north, passing through the Yucatán Channel as a tropical storm around 6:00 AM on September 25 and making landfall in Florida as a major Category 3 hurricane around 6:00 PM on September 26.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center has issued a warning that heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, storm surges, and high waves are possible as the system approaches the western side of Cuba today and tomorrow. Please pay attention to information from relevant authorities and updates, and use the “Preparedness Checklist for Various Disasters” below as a reference to check your emergency supplies and avoid non-essential outings.

Those residing in or traveling through western Cuba, particularly in Pinar del Río Province and Isla de la Juventud, should exercise extreme caution.
