Security Alert: National Elections Advisory

Event: The season for national elections throughout Mozambique is underway and will last through Wednesday, October 9, 2024, when elections take place. Throughout this period, as well as the days following the elections, rallies and demonstrations likely will occur. These events may be unpredictable and have the potential to turn violent with little or no notice. As usual, U.S. citizens are advised to follow the below standing guidance.
Actions To Take:
- Avoid large crowds.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Maintain a low profile.
- Carry proper identification.
- Review your personal security plans.
- Keep your cell phone charged in case of emergency.
- Monitor local media for updates and factor updated information into your travel plans and activities.
- Have a contingency plan for emergencies and review the Traveler’s Checklist .
