Vietnam: Typhoon No. 11 (Yagi) Approaching

● Typhoon No. 11 (international name: Yagi, Vietnam name: Typhoon No. 3) is expected to approach and make landfall in northern Vietnam around 1:00 p.m. on the 7th.
● Heavy rain, lightning, hail, floods, and landslides are expected in some areas, including the northern provinces. Additionally, several airports, including Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi), have announced closures. Please make every effort to obtain the latest weather information and take appropriate safety measures.

1. According to the Vietnam National Meteorological Center, as of 9:00 a.m. on September 6, Typhoon No. 11 (international name: Yagi, Vietnam name: Typhoon No. 3) is moving westward at a speed of 15-20 km/h, and is approaching a position 160 km southeast of Hainan Island, China (600 km southeast of Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam). The central wind speed of the typhoon is between 184-201 km/h, and it is expected to make landfall in four northern coastal provinces (Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, and Nam Dinh) around 1:00 p.m. on September 7. By around 7:00 p.m. the same day, it is expected to weaken into a tropical depression.

Due to the impact of this typhoon, the Vietnam National Meteorological Center has issued the following warnings:

○ Heavy rain, lightning, hail, floods, and landslides are expected in the following northern provinces, including Hanoi and Hai Phong, as well as Thanh Hoa Province:
Northern provinces details: Bac Kan, Bac Giang, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Quang Ninh, Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh

Furthermore, the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority under the Ministry of Transport has announced the closure of the following airports due to the impact of the typhoon:

• Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi): September 7, 10:00 to 19:00
• Van Don Airport (Quang Ninh Province): September 7, 04:00 to 16:00
• Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong): September 7, 05:00 to 16:00
• Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa Province): September 7, 12:00 to 22:00

2. Those planning to travel to or stay in areas likely to be affected by the typhoon are advised to monitor the latest typhoon and local weather information via the relevant websites listed below, and to avoid traveling or going out in case of anticipated damage from the typhoon. Alternatively, adjust your schedule, routes, or destinations to ensure safety and avoid being caught in disasters or accidents.
If you are already in the affected areas, prepare for the typhoon by keeping a flashlight and portable radio on hand, stockpiling water and food, informing family members of emergency contact information, and checking evacuation locations in advance. If necessary, evacuate to a safe place.
Also, be aware that even after the typhoon passes, secondary disasters such as landslides due to loosened ground may occur, so exercise caution.
