Details:

  • On June 11 (Tuesday) around 1:00 PM, a snatch theft occurred inside a taxi stuck in traffic on Corniche Street in Dakar. A young foreign man approached on foot, reached through the partially open rear window, and stole a smartphone that the victim was using and had around their neck.
  • Although the victim was unharmed in this incident, theft can occur even when taking preventive measures such as keeping valuables close. The approaching Tabaski (Eid al-Adha) festival increases demand for items like sheep, which in turn raises prices and the likelihood of theft. It is important to be vigilant against snatch theft and other forms of theft when going out.

Precautions:

  • Keep valuables within sight at all times.
  • Avoid carrying items on the roadside.
  • Try to travel in groups whenever possible, especially at night.
  • Do not open car windows.
  • Be particularly cautious of two-person motorbikes.
  • Avoid attempting to retrieve stolen items yourself as it could lead to injury.
