Be cautious of SMS messages that impersonate postal services and claim that “The address on the package label is incorrect, so we cannot deliver the package. Please update the delivery address within 24 hours using this link.”

Clicking on the link may prompt a request to enter credit card information to “pay for redelivery fees.” Entering your information could lead to unauthorized charges up to your credit limit. Another common pattern is an SMS stating, “A package for you has arrived. Please pay the delivery fee within 7 days to receive it. If payment is not made, it will be returned to the sender.”

These SMS messages are highly likely to be scams, so please exercise caution.

To protect yourself, follow these guidelines:

  1. Postal services will never ask for bank account numbers or other sensitive information via SMS.
  2. Be aware that URLs in SMS messages may be fraudulent. Avoid clicking on links from unknown or suspicious sources. Scammers often exploit recipients’ anxiety to lure them into accessing these links. Verify the legitimacy of the request through official channels or other means.
  3. Consider lowering your credit card limit to reduce potential losses. Always have your card issuer’s emergency contact information on hand.
