1. Incident Overview

  • Date and Time: April 25, Monday, around 5:00 PM
  • Location: On a local road from Apaseo El Grande, Guanajuato State, through the Obrajuelo village towards Querétaro State. Incident occurred just after crossing the last top of the Berceo village.
  • Details: While driving on the local road, a white sedan approached from behind and pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle. An armed man in the passenger seat of the sedan pointed a gun and demanded the victim stop the car. After stopping, three men got out of the sedan and instructed the victim to exit the vehicle, demanding their cellphone and car keys. One of the robbers then entered the victim’s car, while the victim was forced into the backseat of the sedan and was held captive. During the incident, the robbers also demanded and received the victim’s wallet. The robbers assured the victim that if they complied, their life would be spared. After about ten minutes, they were dropped off in a flat area north of the village. The robbers told the victim to wait five minutes before leaving, as their accomplices were watching, and then released them.

2. Precautions

  • (1) Use highways or main roads for intercity travel whenever possible, as security authorities regularly patrol these routes.
  • (2) Avoid using roads that pass through small villages to avoid potential hazards. Although GPS systems may suggest the shortest route, drivers should use their judgment to avoid routes that seem dangerous.
  • (3) Robbers often target vehicles and cash, and firearms are commonly used in these crimes. Avoid sudden movements or actions that may provoke the robbers. Follow their instructions to minimize risk.
