1. Incident Overview

  • Date and Time: August 2, 2022, around 7:00 AM
  • Location: OXXO store parking lot on a highway in El Marqués, Querétaro State
  • Details: After parking at an OXXO store and exiting the vehicle, the victims were approached by two men (wearing hats and masks) in a vehicle. The men brandished a gun and stole a bag containing passports, a laptop, and a cellphone from the passenger seat of the car. The perpetrators fled the scene immediately. Although there were several other customers in the parking lot, none noticed the robbery, and the victims were unharmed.

2. Safety Tips

  • Avoid Risky Times and Locations: Many robberies involving Japanese nationals occur early in the morning or in the evening. Convenience stores and gas stations often lack security personnel, increasing the risk of robbery. Try to avoid visiting these places during your commute or return home.
  • Stay Alert at Familiar Places: Even if you regularly visit certain stores, remember that crime can occur anywhere, regardless of how familiar or secure a place may seem. Always remain vigilant.
  • Follow Instructions During a Robbery: In the event of a robbery, comply with the robbers’ demands to minimize risk. Robbers often carry guns, so avoid sudden movements or actions that might provoke them.
