● San José Province

  • “42-year-old man found dead” (Homicide)
    On July 1, a 42-year-old man was found dead inside a residence in Romoser, San José. The body had multiple stab wounds and was wrapped in a sheet.

    On July 2 at 6:50 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot and killed by two men who forcibly entered his home in Atillo, San José. The victim had previously been on trial for attempted murder and was also under investigation for drug-related activities.
  • “25-year-old man and 22-year-old man shot dead” (Homicide)
    On July 6 at 11:19 p.m., two brothers, aged 25 and 22, were shot and killed in a bar in Alajuelita while drinking with their mother and friends. The attacker entered the bar and shot the 25-year-old, and when the 22-year-old tried to intervene, he was also shot. Both died, and their mother and a friend were injured. The elder brother had recently been released from prison.

    On July 8 at 6:00 a.m., a man’s body was found wrapped in a blanket and placed on a cart on a street in Atillo, San José. The identity of the deceased is still unknown.
  • “Nicaraguan man shot dead” (Homicide)
    On July 17, a Nicaraguan man and a Jamaican man were involved in a fight in Purral, Goicoechea. They were shot by another man, resulting in the Nicaraguan’s death and the Jamaican’s injury.

    On July 17 at noon, a 25-year-old man was shot by two men on a motorcycle while at a car repair shop in Alajuelita. He was taken to the hospital but died shortly after.

    On July 27 at 3:46 a.m., a 16-year-old girl was shot dead while sitting in a car parked outside a drug consumption shack in Alajuelita. A 23-year-old man inside the shack was also shot and is in critical condition.
  • “53-year-old man shot dead” (Homicide)
    On July 28 at 1:00 a.m., a 53-year-old man was shot and killed by a man on a motorcycle inside a bar in San José. A 62-year-old female customer was also seriously injured. The victim was the director of environmental health at the Ministry of Health.
  • “Three men arrested with 550 kg of marijuana” (Drug-related incident)
    On July 31 at midnight, three cars made a U-turn and sped away from a checkpoint in Pérez Zeledón. Traffic police pursued them for about two kilometers and arrested three men. One of the vehicles was found to be carrying 550 kg of marijuana.

● Limón Province

  • “16-year-old girl shot dead” (Homicide)
    On July 10 at 10:45 p.m., a 16-year-old girl was killed by a stray bullet during a gang-related shooting on a street in Limón while she was with her family and boyfriend.
  • “Cocaine found in container” (Drug-related incident)
    On July 14, 350 kg of cocaine was discovered in a container of fruit destined for Belgium at the APM Terminals port in Moín, Limón.
  • “22-year-old man shot dead” (Homicide)
    On July 18 at 9:00 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle while in a bar in Guácimo. 500,000 colones in cash were found in the victim’s pocket, and marijuana was discovered in his car.

    On July 23, 45 kg of cocaine was discovered in the refrigeration unit of a container of fruit destined for Spain at the APM Terminals port in Limón.

  • “45-year-old woman strangled” (Homicide)
    On July 14, a 45-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Corobici, Puntarenas. She was the principal of a local elementary school and is believed to have been strangled. The suspect is her boyfriend, who is now missing.
  • “Man shot dead while eating” (Homicide)
    On July 26, a man was shot dead while eating at a restaurant in Parrita. The perpetrators fled on a motorcycle.
  • “32-year-old man shot dead” (Homicide)
    On July 27 at 9:15 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle while sitting in a car wash in Quepos. A 23-year-old man with him was also critically injured.

    On July 22 at 12:30 p.m., two robbers posing as deliverymen entered a jewelry store in Liberia and shot and killed the 57-year-old owner before stealing jewels and fleeing.
  • “Stolen vehicle leads to discovery of chop shop” (Vehicle theft incident)
    On July 26, a car stolen in Liberia was tracked via GPS to a mechanic’s shop in Guatuso, Alajuela. The police recovered the stolen vehicle and discovered another stolen car and three vehicles with fake license plates.

● Heredia Province

    On July 12 at 10:30 p.m., a man in his 30s was shot dead by someone in another car while riding in a ride-share vehicle in San Rafael, Heredia. His identity is still unknown.
  • “Accomplice shot by his own group” (Homicide)
    On July 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Guararí, Heredia, two men opened fire on a group of three (aged 18, 21, and 23) getting out of a car. In the crossfire, one of the attackers accidentally shot and killed an accomplice. The targeted three were injured but survived.
