• On August 18, around 11:00 a.m., a Japanese tourist parked their vehicle at the Ritidian Beach parking lot in the northern part of Guam. During that time, a break-in occurred where the vehicle’s window was shattered, and valuables, including a passport and wallet, were stolen.
• Recently, there have been multiple reports of vehicle break-ins at tourist spots such as beaches and lookout point parking lots. If you leave belongings in your vehicle, there is a risk that your car window will be smashed, and the interior searched. Please ensure that you do not leave anything inside the vehicle when you step away, especially valuables. Travelers should store their passports and valuables in the hotel safe and carry a copy of their passport with them. Although rental cars are frequently targeted at tourist sites, there have also been reports of incidents involving privately owned vehicles of local residents. Therefore, it’s important to stay vigilant regardless of the vehicle type or location.
• It’s said that the perpetrators may wait in the shadows or inside a vehicle, lying in wait for their target. If you notice someone loitering around, possibly killing time by using a smartphone in or around the parking lot, consider not parking there and leaving the area as a precautionary measure.
• There have been no reported incidents involving Japanese nationals at Ritidian Beach or its surrounding areas this year. However, in the past, there was a robbery involving the use of a firearm near this location, and the safety on weekdays when the area is less crowded is considered poor. Additionally, the currents at Ritidian Beach are swift, and there have been numerous incidents of people being swept away by waves. A few months ago, a tourist from another country was fatally attacked by a shark. Please exercise caution when visiting this area.
