Venezuela: Presidential Election (Alert Regarding Border Closures)

According to reports, some border movements are being restricted in connection with the Venezuelan presidential election scheduled for July 28.

To avoid getting caught up in unexpected situations, please stay updated with the latest information through reports and take measures to ensure your own safety.

1. According to reports, the Strategic Operational Command of the National Armed Forces (CEOFANB) has announced that land borders will be closed in connection with the Venezuelan presidential election on July 28.

2. The border closure will be in effect from July 26 (Friday) until 8:00 AM on July 29 (Monday), and it is reported that border closures are being implemented in Táchira and Apure states, which border Colombia.

3. Additionally, a joint resolution by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior and Justice was published in the official gazette on July 23. This resolution prohibits movement of people and vehicles across land, sea, and air borders during the aforementioned period to protect the inviolability of the borders and prevent activities that could pose a threat to national security during the presidential election. (Currently, flights are operating, but some border movements are restricted.)

4. Please continue to stay informed through reports to avoid unexpected situations and ensure your safety. Note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a Level 3 travel advisory (refrain from traveling) for the border areas with Colombia, so please take caution.
