France: Alert for the Paris Olympics and Paralympics (Part 2)

1 The 33rd Olympic Games (2024/Paris) will be held in Paris and the rest of France for 17 days from July 26 to August 11 (some events will start on July 24). The Games will be held from August 28 to September 17, 2024 in Paris. In addition, the 17th Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will be held in Paris and other cities for 12 days from August 28 to September 8.
2 From April to June this year, a total of 61 crimes (including attempted crimes) in which Japanese nationals were victims were reported to the Embassy of Japan in France (breakdown: 29 cases of pickpocketing, 3 cases of snatching, 11 cases of leaving behind, 4 cases of other theft, 1 case of robbery, 1 case of vehicle theft, 2 cases of housebreaking, 10 cases of fraud). Thefts are not limited to those in the city’s most famous tourist destinations.
Particular attention should be paid to pickpocketing and other thefts at famous tourist spots, on trains and subways, and near train stations. In addition, credit card fraud has been reported in the terminal of Charles de Gaulle Airport, in which people pretend to ask for help when they are having trouble using their credit cards, and then fraudulently take their credit cards and information.

3 Currently, the alert level of the Anti-Terrorism Action Plan (vigipirate) in France is at the highest level. In April and May of this year, a suspect was arrested in France for planning terrorist attacks targeting the Olympics, and it is necessary to consider that there is a risk that terrorist incidents may occur in the future.
4 In light of this situation, those who are currently in France or are planning to stay in France are asked to pay attention to the information provided in the Spot Information “France: Alerts for the Paris Olympics and Paralympics” dated June 24, and to be very careful to avoid criminal damage and trouble. Please be aware of the following
Please exercise extreme caution in areas where large numbers of people gather, such as near stadiums and event venues, and take safety measures such as keeping your stay as short as possible and confirming evacuation routes in advance. If you see a suspicious person, please leave the area immediately to ensure your safety.
