Uruguay: Advisory on International Soccer Match (October 30) – Update

•An international soccer match (Copa Libertadores) will take place in Montevideo at 9:30 PM on Wednesday, October 30.

•Due to security concerns, the venue has been changed to Estadio Centenario.

•If you plan to be out, exercise caution around the stadium and areas where related groups may gather to avoid potential disturbances.

On Wednesday, October 30, at 9:30 PM, CA Peñarol and Botafogo FR will face off in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier soccer club competition. Originally scheduled at CA Peñarol’s home stadium, the game has been moved to Estadio Centenario, closer to Montevideo’s central area, for enhanced security.

In the previous match between these teams in Rio de Janeiro on October 23, violence erupted when Botafogo supporters confronted CA Peñarol fans at a designated meeting point. This led to riots, property damage, and over 250 arrests, with weapons confiscated. Due to fears of retaliatory violence, authorities advise caution for those near the venue or related gathering points.
